What this tool does

Fluency practice lives or dies on the problem set. Numbers the right size. No accidental repeats. And an answer key you can trust while a line of children waits at your desk. This maker builds the set to your settings. Choose one operation, or Mixed for a review page that cycles through all four. Choose a grade band and the numbers stay inside that band's ranges, spelled out below. Choose 20, 30 or 40 problems. The PDF prints them in the stacked vertical layout children learn to work in, at up to 20 per page, with a compact answer key at the back for you. Every set is generated fresh and then checked: a problem that already appears in the set is thrown out and replaced, so the same question never shows up twice on one worksheet, and subtraction never asks a seven-year-old for a negative answer.

What the grade bands cover

Grades 1 to 2: addition and subtraction within 20, multiplication and division inside the 2, 3, 4 and 5 tables. This is fluency-to-20 territory, the facts children are expected to know cold by the end of grade 2. Grades 3 to 4: addition and subtraction up to 1,000, multiplication up to 12 by 9, division built from table facts up to 12 so it always comes out even. Grades 5 to 6: addition and subtraction up to 100,000, and multiplication grows a two-digit factor (up to 99 by 12) for real multi-digit work. Division is always built backwards from a times-table fact - pick the divisor and the answer, multiply them into the question - so no child meets a remainder before you have taught remainders.

The regrouping switch

Regrouping - carrying in addition, borrowing in subtraction - is a skill of its own, and sometimes you want a set that practises everything except that. Turn the switch off and the generator inspects every candidate problem digit by digit and rejects any that would carry or borrow: 452 + 137 survives, 458 + 137 does not. Turn it on and problems come from the full range. That is the difference between a confidence-building set in the week you introduce a unit and a full workout the week after. The switch applies to addition and subtraction only; multiplication and division have their own difficulty controls in the band and the table limit.

Questions teachers ask

Can the same problem appear twice?

Not inside one packet. The generator keeps a list of everything it has placed and discards duplicates before they reach the page - 40 problems means 40 different problems. Two different downloads can share a problem, of course, the way two shuffled decks share cards.

Is the answer key actually reliable?

Yes, because it is not typed - it is computed. Each answer is calculated when the problem is created and printed from the same data, and division is built from a known fact, so the key cannot drift from the worksheet. Our own tests re-check thousands of generated answers before any build of this site ships.

Why is there no fractions or decimals yet?

Because the four operations are the daily-fluency core for grades 1 to 6, and we would rather do them properly than do everything thinly. If the tool earns its keep, fractions are the first expansion, and the grade bands are already shaped to receive them.

What does it cost?

Nothing. No account, no watermark, and the answer key prints on its own page so it never lands in a child's hands by accident.
